An iPhone with iOS 26.4 or later and an internet connection. For the music, use Spotify Premium with the Spotify app on your iPhone, or an Apple Music subscription. If you don’t have either, Moonody Plus includes Moonody’s own sleep sounds.

Get into bed, open Moonody and tap Go to Sleep. Moonody checks that you’re in bed, because the Sleep Signal should only play there. Then: phone down, lights off.

Yes. The music and your alarm keep working with the phone locked. Moonody stays active all night to make that possible, so we recommend charging your iPhone overnight.

Because there’s nothing to check in bed. After a few seconds the screen fades to near black so it doesn’t light up your room. The moon keeps breathing, so you know Moonody is still with you. Tap the screen once to wake it.

Every Moonody session starts with the same 15-second sequence of soft bells. That’s the Sleep Signal. After it plays, it stays softly under the music for up to 10 minutes while you drift off, then fades away.

The Signal never changes. Same sound, every night. That’s what makes it work.

Hearing the Signal while you’re awake during the day weakens the link with sleep. That’s why you hear it once during setup, and after that only in bed. It’s also why we don’t play it on this website.

No. There are no sensors, no microphone and no Health data. Moonody records your sessions, such as when you went to bed and when the night ended. A few mornings in every seven-night cycle, it asks you how long it took to fall asleep. Your Journal shows those answers as your own estimate.

That’s okay. Let the music play and rest your eyes. If you’re still awake after about 20 minutes, get up for a while and come back when you feel sleepy. If you have trouble sleeping most nights, talk to a doctor. Moonody is not a medical treatment.

Every night Moonody builds a fresh mix of calm music, about ten hours long, and plays it through your music service. On Spotify, it lives in a private playlist called Moonody · Tonight. It’s rebuilt every night, so there’s no need to edit it. With Apple Music, it plays from the Apple Music catalog, right inside Moonody. Without either, Moonody Plus plays Moonody sleep sounds, streamed from our servers.

You can still use Moonody: the Sleep Signal and the ritual work without a music service. For music all night, Moonody Plus includes Moonody sleep sounds. Choose “I don’t have either” when Moonody asks about your music, or change it later in Profile and settings › Music Source.

Spotify only lets apps like Moonody start and control music for Premium accounts. You also need the Spotify app installed on your iPhone, signed in to the same account.

It can. Spotify learns from what you play, and Moonody plays all night. To keep your recommendations and your Wrapped as they are, open the playlist Moonody · Tonight in Spotify, tap ••• and choose Exclude playlist from your taste profile. You only need to do it once.

• Check that you’re connected to the internet.
• Spotify: make sure the Spotify app is installed and signed in with your Premium account. If Moonody asks you to reconnect, follow the steps on screen.
• Apple Music: make sure your subscription is active and that Moonody is allowed in Settings › Privacy & Security › Media & Apple Music.

Smart Fade lowers the volume gradually over the time you choose, from 5 to 45 minutes. It lowers your iPhone’s volume, then puts it back at the end of the night and before your alarm. If you change the volume yourself, Smart Fade steps aside for that night.

Yes. Play at a comfortable level on your phone, earbuds or room speakers. The night screen has an AirPlay button.

Moonody sets the alarm with your iPhone’s own alarm system, using the standard iOS sound, with an 8-minute snooze. Allow Moonody to set alarms when it asks, so the alarm rings even when the app is closed. You can change this later in your iPhone’s Settings › Apps › Moonody.

Make sure notifications are on for Moonody in Settings › Notifications. You can choose when the reminder comes, from 5 to 60 minutes before bedtime, in Moonody’s settings.

If you use Spotify Premium or Apple Music, no: Moonody is free. Without either, the Sleep Signal and the ritual still work, and Plus adds the music: Moonody sleep sounds, which play all night. It also adds your trends to the Journal: your time in bed, bedtime and wake-up time over 7 days, 30 days and all time.

On your iPhone, go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Moonody and tap Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app or your Moonody account doesn’t cancel it.

Apple processes all purchases, so refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy it, then tap Restore Purchases in Moonody’s settings.

No. Moonody creates an account for you the first time you open it. There’s no password to remember.

Yes, if you use Spotify. Connect the same Spotify account on the new iPhone and your nights and settings come back. Without Spotify, your history can’t be moved to another iPhone yet.

In Moonody, go to Profile and settings › Account › Delete Account. You need an internet connection. We delete what identifies you, such as your email and your Spotify connection. Your history is kept only as de-identified statistics.

Deleting your account doesn’t cancel Moonody Plus. The “Moonody · Tonight” playlist stays in your Spotify account until you delete it there, and you can remove Moonody’s access at spotify.com/account/apps.
